Window box workshop - Year 9
Window box Workshop - year 3

During my final project in my second year at MMU I was given the opportunity to run creative workshops within a group of other students at different schools including a year 3 class from Webster Primary School - based in Manchester. I loved doing this workshop as it involved letting the children run free with their creative minds and letting them decide for themselves whether or not the required our guidance. The outcome of this workshop was much better than we expected as not only did the children produce beautiful pieces of art, they thoroughly enjoyed the time spent doing so.

As well as a year 3 class we worked with a high school group of year 9's, for the younger class we had them create garden themed window boxes which we believed would not be appealing to the older group. to adapt this workshop we created a zombie apocalypse window box survival kit task, we gave them a series of stations each having a different set of materials with set tasks and rules. This was an extremely successful workshop and the children loved the idea of creating a survival kit, they gave us very inspiring and useful feedback.

My plans for the future involve volunteering at local schools and college to gain experience in actively sharing my creative ideas and opinions with a wide range of people to enable me to make a decision of what kind of teaching I prefer. I will also be considering the preparation of workshops for community based art programmes intending to appeal to people of all ages and abilities. I aim to fulfil the needs of creative minds and make it become a more regular occurrence as I believe it is an essential part of living a happy life.

During my time volunteering at the GNCCF I was able to interact with a variety of practicing artist that work in all areas of art and design, some had many years of experience, some had only just graduated! Everyone had wonderful stories of how they got to where they are now and great advice on how to go about certain aspects of a creative practice. This was inspiring to me and it helped my decision on a future career, I would love to go into teaching to pass on my love for the art and design world and share my creativity and skills!
